I live, fish and give lessons on the river Adur at Shoreham by Sea. Registered and insured as a Level 2 game angling coach with the Angling Trust. I have been fly fishing for maybe 40 years and offer coaching sessions for the absolute beginner or improver wishing hone their skills. For instance: any problems with casting, such as, line not landing straight, fly catching the line in mid air or hitting the rod, can’t get the distance, struggle in windy conditions, accuracy, line landing in a heap or not turning over etc. etc.
A short session with qualified coach can save hours of frustration which can sadly result in a feeling of failure or just plain giving up =(
Costs and what to expect
Beginners Session: An introduction to fly fishing. I suggest a 3 hour session to start you on your way. First half on my local green next to the River Adur to include about the tackle, it’s purpose, the way it works, how to assemble and use it safely when fly fishing. Discuss and choose flies for different species and conditions. Learn the basic, overhead and roll casting techniques and other tricks. How to play and net a fish once hooked. A ten minute break (tea/coffee supplied) then onto the River Adur to try out and practice your new skills. Once you learn to fly-fish a river such as the Adur, you should be able to fish almost anywhere. So then it’s up to you to practice and enjoy your fly fishing! The lower Adur is a salt water, tidal estuary and the fish wild. There is no gaurenty of catching on your first visit. But you never know until you try?
Costs are based a one to one tuition and are now £90 a session. Or you can double up with a friend for £120. Please pay on the day of the lesson. Prices include the loan of quality, up-to-date tackle and equipment. I have several rod outfits to suit different ages and abilities. Just bring your own wellies, cap and eye protection/sunglasses. If you have your own tackle, then great! Bring it along to the session and we can check it over and make sure the outfit is balanced and set up correctly for you.
