Arriving at my local lake yesterday I noticed a good hatch of midges coming off the water. So put together a leader comprising of 2 black buzzers suspended under a large buoyant dry fly. All spaced 4ft apart so I am fishing  with 12ft leader. It wasn’t long before I got a take and after a great scrap, landed a good sized brownie. Just over 2 hours later I had landed a total of 2 browns and 4 rainbows and easily lost as many fish. The takes came on both buzzers and the last fish took the dry fly which I kept for dinner. Absolute magic and lucky timing.

I am extremely lucky to have just been given access to two small, secluded trout lakes in Sussex stocked with quality rainbow trout. Where I can offer guided sessions to the novice, learner or improver at very reasonable rates. I will be putting a new package together soon on the main site booking page. Tight Lines Howie

A few hours skive off in the sun pays off. Dragonfly nymphs scoring during the late morning hatch. Result: 3 rainbows and 3 lost. 

A visit to my lakes and the fish are feeding heavily on dragonfly nymphs.  Just happen to have a couple of patterns in the bag.

Another year at http://www.flyshingsussex.com   Again the saltwater fishing on the Adur was down.   After many a visit to the river throughout the whole season I have nothing worth to report.   Ok —  the mullet where there, but not like the old days. Let’s see?

Luckily our local trout fisheries are well stocked

I spotted a rising fish earlier in the evening but managed only to spook it with a lure fly. I let it rest for a hour or so then returned to find it feeding again. I tied on a hopper and gave a couple of twitches and it hit the fly. Luckily I  got this shot too. Shortly after I landed a nice brownie of about 2lbs.

An early morning start paid off for myself and fishing buddy Glen South. This time of year certainly pays to start early or late. For us we were fishing by 7am. It took a short while to find the fish and the right fly. We started getting takes at 20 feet down on BF Damsel nymphs. Then as the sun came up and the damsel nymphs started hatching. The trout also moved up to feed so we concentrated on fishing the margins. By 11.30 am we had a bag of 5 fish each and off to the weighing room. Just in time for a well earned beer on the way home. Perfect Sunday morning at a superb venue.

Out with the boys from the Sussex Fly Dressers Guild yesterday at Passies Pond. A fine day spent with fine fellows.  These beauty’s really pull your string.

The best from Broadlands river Test yesterday. Small mayfly hatch later in the day. Needs to warm up a bit. Otherwise steadily catching grayling and trout throughout the day. Should be on fire next week. Great company with (The Baron) David Peach.
