A visit to my lakes and the fish are feeding heavily on dragonfly nymphs. Just happen to have a couple of patterns in the bag.

Another year at http://www.flyshingsussex.com Again the saltwater fishing on the Adur was down. After many a visit to the river throughout the whole season I have nothing worth to report. Ok — the mullet where there, but not like the old days. Let’s see?
Luckily our local trout fisheries are well stocked
I spotted a rising fish earlier in the evening but managed only to spook it with a lure fly. I let it rest for a hour or so then returned to find it feeding again. I tied on a hopper and gave a couple of twitches and it hit the fly. Luckily I got this shot too. Shortly after I landed a nice brownie of about 2lbs.

An early morning start paid off for myself and fishing buddy Glen South. This time of year certainly pays to start early or late. For us we were fishing by 7am. It took a short while to find the fish and the right fly. We started getting takes at 20 feet down on BF Damsel nymphs. Then as the sun came up and the damsel nymphs started hatching. The trout also moved up to feed so we concentrated on fishing the margins. By 11.30 am we had a bag of 5 fish each and off to the weighing room. Just in time for a well earned beer on the way home. Perfect Sunday morning at a superb venue.

Out with the boys from the Sussex Fly Dressers Guild yesterday at Passies Pond. A fine day spent with fine fellows. These beauty’s really pull your string.

The best from Broadlands river Test yesterday. Small mayfly hatch later in the day. Needs to warm up a bit. Otherwise steadily catching grayling and trout throughout the day. Should be on fire next week. Great company with (The Baron) David Peach.

This Rainbow took a Booby Hopper fly. Then stripped me down to the backing 3 times with blistering runs across the lake. A very healthy specimen at 6.5lbs landed and returned. I purchased the flies from eBay and now I can copy and make myself.

While London friends go shopping in Worthing, one takes advantage and sneeks few hours fishing. On arrival I notice fish activity in the shallows. They where scoffing on tadpoles so, what to to?

After a 3 hour casting and fly fishing basics lesson we visit Chalk Springs fishery. On arrival there are fish rising everywhere to hatching flies. We set up one rod with a small Damsel and the other with a Sedge. It was not long before we are into a fish of around 4 lbs. Then we take another 2 off the surface with the Sedge. One well exceeding 4lb. A break for lunch and back on the water to take 2 more good fish. Well done Steve.
