Changing seasons, flies and tactics
Took a few hours out from work this morning and headed off to my lakes before the rains arrive. Started fishing at 8am and after tying on a black tadpole pattern. Second cast I was into a good rainbow. The fish had been feasting on small, black, pond snails as on inspection the stomach was full. Within 2 hours I’d caught 4 rainbows. The biggest (pictured) was 5lbs. It pays to try different flies as the seasons and conditions change. Like the fish, we have to adapt to keep feeding and catching. I know the Tadpole fly is nothing like a snail except for the colour black but that can make all the difference. Who knows, maybe nextime green or bright pink ????

Fishy tales
No wonder this fish pulled so hard. Check out the tail fin. This rainbow took a red midge on the drop. Smack in the scissors so luckily well hooked. Also Christened my new SKB, Pitsford Pirate fly line. Must admit, so far very impressed with the line which shoots really nicely.

Modern tackle
I am definitely not a techie but I love modern materials and tackle. I remember the old beautifully hand crafted split cane rods. Then came glass fibre in it’s many colours. They were our pride and joy but I must admit you cannot ignore the performance and feel of the today’s carbon rods. At a fraction of the weight, even the multi section travel rods have really come on too and make up the majority of my armory. For instance check out the pics from last night’ powerfull Rainbow, testing my Daiwa Lexa, 4 piece, 5 eight to the max.

Client feedback
Howie, May 2016
Just wanted to say many thanks for the great fly fishing experience. I haven’t done fly fishing since I was a teenager and really fell for it again particularly with your patient, calm approach to teaching. Would definitely like to book again to go fishing ‘proper’. Would highly recommend you as a teacher. Kate
Mayfly Magic
Very lucky to experience a hatch of mayfly on the river Test yesterday. The weather was quite cold and windy in the morning so we did not expect it to happen. Then late afternoon the conditioned changed and it started to happen. We quickly set up our tackle from nymphing to dry fly and made the most of the hatch which lasted about 2 hours. Below one of the lovely browns which fell for my mayfly pattern.

Lovin summer evenings
Getting involved with four big rainbows tonight. Fishing a green damsel 10 foot down on a 444 Clear Camo fly line. A very stealthy line and casts like a dream. Well done Cortland. By the way checkout the tail on that fish.
