Took a few hours out from work this morning and headed off to my lakes before the rains arrive. Started fishing at 8am and after tying on a black tadpole pattern. Second cast I was into a good rainbow. The fish had been feasting on small, black, pond snails as on inspection the stomach was full. Within 2 hours I’d caught 4 rainbows. The biggest (pictured) was 5lbs. It pays to try different flies as the seasons and conditions change. Like the fish, we have to adapt to keep feeding and catching. I know the Tadpole fly is nothing like a snail except for the colour black but that can make all the difference. Who knows, maybe nextime green or bright pink ????
