Fly fishing Portugal

Luckily I’m off to Portugal with my partner for 9 days and will be revisiting the beautiful area around Coimbra to the north central. I hope to grab a few days to fly fish the lovely river Ceira again. The stretches which run through the old town of Gois are particularly nice with two weir pools, some long, slower deep parts to explore with plenty of trout to be had under the shade of trees. The second weir pool on the edge of the town runs off into a faster streamy run which takes you down to the end of the beat. There are rainbows and browns to be had and all for only 5 euros a day, catch and release. One must however obtain a rod licence for the area. There are some monster barbel cruising around too but I’ve yet tempt one to the fly. Here’s a photo from last years trip. The last stretch at Gois.Image
